    Description

    Since the release of the new book by Richard Coleman with nice pictures and prices, it is now a lot easier to price these elusive copper coins that saw extensive circulation in the early United States and were legal until at least 1858. He priced the coins using auction records, fixed price lists and of course his extensive knowledge of the series.  These coins are mentioned in the Red Book although there is not enough room to list them there.
    Offered here is a 1772 evasive copper halfpenny. This coin has evenly lightly rough surfaces, but is very attractive with perfect color and hard surfaces. Nice and more attractive than my scans.  Most of these coins were intentionally weakly struck to give the appearance of being in circulation to make them acceptable in commerce. A nice evasive copper.
