CIVIL WAR INFANTRY BROGANS-C&D Jarnagan Co.-1851 Wartime Pattern with Wood Pegged Leather Soles & Steel Heel Plates
This is a Very Good Condition pair of Infantry Brogans in size 11.5 D width. Every Reenactor knows that C&D Jarnagan Co. makes the Best and Most Authentic 1851 Pattern Wood Pegged Leather Soled Brogans in the business. They have been manufacturing Civil War Reproduction Brogans for close to 40 years. These Brogans were made in 1989 out of Premium Rough Out Leather with authentic Wood Pegged Leather Soles. I had the Steel Heel Plates added for extra to preserve the heels from wear. I wore these in about 2 dozen reenactments during the 125th & 130th Civil War Reenactment period, then started doing 3rd Georgia Volunteer Cavalry and wore my Cavalry Boots from then on. These Brogans are already well broken in, which any reenactor will tell you, it takes several reenactments and some painful foot blisters to do. These 1851 Pattern 4 eye Borgans were used by both the Federal & Confederate Armies. My 42nd Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment / Co. B were sticklers for being as accurate as possible and these were the Brogans most every reenactor wore. Don't ever dry these Brogans by a fire, the leather tanning solution and lacquers they use is very flamable. I saw a fellow reenactor stick his feet up to the company fire and actually catch the soles of his Brogans on fire, I kid you not. If it means anything, I wore these Brogans in several Battle Scenes during the movies filming of Glory, and The Class of '61 in Georgia, and Picketts Charge in Gettysburg in Pennsylvania.
