    Description

    Löwenbräu [Lion Brew] beer was first mentioned in 1746 in Munich’s tax records.   In 1818, Georg Brey bought the brewery, which grew under his management. By 1863, Löwenbräu had become the largest brewery in Munich.  The brewery was formally incorporated in 1872.  Around 1900 Löwenbräu was the largest brewery in Germany.  In 1975, Miller Brewing acquired the North American rights to Löwenbräu and in 1977 Miller began brewing Löwenbräu in the USA.
