    Philadelphia, PA - Wm. Henry Maule, Inc. - ADVERTISING FLOWER SEED POSTCARD: William Henry Maule was born on April 14, 1828 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He took over the operation of the lumber company started by his father and uncle and expanded into the seed business in 1877 originally catering to market gardeners and farmers who supplied local consumers with their fresh vegetables. With the help of his son, the company grew into a prominent mail-order business. He died on April 3, 1902 and has no living descendants. This Divided Back Era (1907-15) advertising order acknowledgement postcard shows the Phlox Drummondii on its face with prices per Packet of 10 cents, of 25 cents for an eighth of an ounce of seed, 40 cents for a quarter, and .50 for an ounce. The card's reverse importunes: "WE THANK YOU - Your valued order is sent herewith and we trust everything will be found satisfactory, but should we have made any mistakes advise us at once and we will gladly rectify same. It is our constant aim and endeavor to supply such high-grade seeds and render such prompt service that when you or any of your neighbors to whom we trust you will recommend us, are in need of seeds you will naturally send your order to Wm. Henry Maule, Inc. S.W. Cor 21st and Arch Sts., Philadelphia, Pa." The card is in good condition, but shows some edge wear and some staining on the reverse.
